Song of Songs 2:8-14;Psalm 33:2-3, 11-12, 20-21; Luke 1:39-45

“In God our hearts rejoice.” (Psalm 33:21)

It’s amazing what people will do to get something they want or to attend a special event. We see images on the news of people waiting all night outside a store to be the first one to buy a new cell phone or to get tickets for opening night to a new movie before they sell out.

Thank God we don’t have to be like that when it comes to God’s grace! Granted, there are countless stories about saints praying long into the night. But that wasn’t because they were seeking God’s presence; it was because they were already enjoying it. They knew there was no risk of his grace “selling out.” They just wanted to receive all they could so that they had more to give away.

Throughout Scripture it is evident that being in God’s presence changes lives. The Song of Songs tells us that God’s love reaches deep into our hearts and fills us in a way that no other love possibly can. The proclamations of praise and heartfelt cries found throughout the Book of Psalms flowed out of people’s experiences of the Lord. And when Mary, pregnant with Jesus, arrived at Elizabeth’s house, her cousin was overcome with awe and joy. Even Elizabeth’s unborn child, John, leaped for joy. Again and again, we see how lives are transformed when they are in God’s presence.

Even today, Jesus is offering us the gift of his presence. You don’t have to wait in a long line, hoping to snatch him before he disappears. You don’t have to settle for just a moment of his precious time or attention. He is waiting for you, eager to welcome you. It doesn’t even matter what method you choose to come to him. You can find him whether you are dancing with praise music, chanting ancient hymns, kneeling in a chapel, or lying on the living room floor. You may experience him in a way different from your neighbor or even your spouse. But that doesn’t matter. All that matters is that Jesus is right next to you, waiting to be found by you!

There is no better place to be than in the presence of Jesus, your Redeemer and Friend!

“Lord Jesus, thank you for calling me to be with you. Thank you for the privilege of walking with you every day!”~WAU

About gemdk

I am a cradle Catholic who made my first Holy Communion over 5o years ago at All Saints Catholic Church in Houston,TX in 1961. Went to Mass every Sunday as a child and teen and then young adult. Fell away for about 12 years in the late 80's, early 90's and then realized what was missing in my life was my Catholic upbringing and faith. Found my home at Sacred Heart in Crosby. Filling up the void I had for those 12 years in more ways than I can imagine, loving every minute of it. But this blog is not about me as much as it is for me and anyone who wants/needs to hear the word of God. I'm merely the instrument God uses to post the readings.
