Audio Readings January 9, 2013 Wednesday in the Season of Christmas

1 John 4:11-18;Psalm 72:1-2, 10, 12-13; Mark 6:45-52

As he is, so are we in this world. (1 John 4:17)

You have probably heard that God is love. But have you ever thought that you are love? It’s true. John tells us that God’s love lives in us. He also tells us that this love is perfected in us as we love each other. And finally, he tells us, “as he is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17).

Do you need convincing? Maybe it would help to repeat this truth to yourself throughout the day: “As he is, so am I in this world. I am love.” It’s not a mind-over-matter scheme, or some kind of self-hypnosis technique. It’s not a matter of convincing yourself that you are something you could never be. Christ really does live in you. You really are his representative in this world.

So be confident! The love that you crave is already in your heart. The love that you know you should have for everyone around you is already there too, and you can show it today! Let’s say you have an errand to run, and your child eagerly wants to tell you about his or her success at school. That’s a moment of choice. Will you choose to love, to sacrifice your preference and plans, and give your time and attention to this other person? Know that you do have a choice in the situation—simply because of the love that is in your heart. You really can decide to be God’s love in that situation!

It’s a basic truth that the more you try to show God’s love, the more confident you will become. Why? Because every time you choose to love, you are giving the Spirit another opportunity to change your heart. You are believing the same thing the Spirit believes about you. And every time you do this, God gains a little more ground in your life.

So choose to give attention to that child. Choose to smile and pray for the driver who cuts you off. Choose to take a meal or flowers to a neighbor having a difficult time. And see how showing love makes you more loving!

“Jesus, I believe that I am your love in this world. Help me to make the right choices today so that I can show that love to everyone around me!”~WAU

About gemdk

I am a cradle Catholic who made my first Holy Communion over 5o years ago at All Saints Catholic Church in Houston,TX in 1961. Went to Mass every Sunday as a child and teen and then young adult. Fell away for about 12 years in the late 80's, early 90's and then realized what was missing in my life was my Catholic upbringing and faith. Found my home at Sacred Heart in Crosby. Filling up the void I had for those 12 years in more ways than I can imagine, loving every minute of it. But this blog is not about me as much as it is for me and anyone who wants/needs to hear the word of God. I'm merely the instrument God uses to post the readings.
