Audio Readings April 25, 4th Week of Easter

Saint Mark, Evangelist

Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)

Yes, it is true: your heavenly Father cares for you! He cares about the things you care about and the things you like. He cares about your struggles, too. He has great affection for you as you strive to obey him in all things. He cares about your questions and efforts to grapple with how and why he made you, and exactly what for. And he promises, as St. Peter says here, to “restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you,” even if you might have to endure suffering for a little while (1 Peter 5:10).

That’s hard to believe, no matter how kind or caring your earthly father may have been. No matter what your childhood was like, the promise of the gospel is that you can receive from your heavenly Father whatever you haven’t known from your human father. What’s more, if there is any lack in your relationship with your parents, you can lay it down at the feet of your loving God. In fact, any area of your life that you think is out of control, uncontrolled, or uncontrollable—eating disorders, loneliness, financial worries, trauma or abuse—you can tell your Father all about it.

Go ahead and ask him for wisdom and understanding. Seek the courage to overcome any pain or fear and to face the obstacles that your life present. Ask him for the strength and perseverance to work through the issues that go with your worries. Don’t be afraid to tell him about the things that seem too heavy for you to carry. He knows your worries and wants to ease your burdens. Ask your Father to take them into his capable hands, so that he can lift you above them in due time.

You may begin to feel sorrow lift off your heart. You may experience contrition for a resentment you’ve held or a greater urging to forgive someone who has hurt you. Go with it! Just let it go. Repent if you need to, and you’ll find yourself moving into greater freedom. Even if you don’t immediately notice any difference, still trust him. Don’t let that keep you from casting your cares on him. He really does care for you. He really is working in power and wisdom beyond anything you can imagine.

“Father, take my pain, my fear, my sorrow. Replace it with the assurance of your love and care for me.”~WAU

About gemdk

I am a cradle Catholic who made my first Holy Communion over 5o years ago at All Saints Catholic Church in Houston,TX in 1961. Went to Mass every Sunday as a child and teen and then young adult. Fell away for about 12 years in the late 80's, early 90's and then realized what was missing in my life was my Catholic upbringing and faith. Found my home at Sacred Heart in Crosby. Filling up the void I had for those 12 years in more ways than I can imagine, loving every minute of it. But this blog is not about me as much as it is for me and anyone who wants/needs to hear the word of God. I'm merely the instrument God uses to post the readings.
